Campus Paths is a strategic simulation of university life. Players take on the role of students, juggling academics, social life, work, and wellness, while acquiring skills and filling their curriculum vitae with experiences as they prepare for their careers after graduation.

The game takes 90 minutes to play, and can accommodate 2-4 players. Included is a Facilitator’s Guide that contains suggestions for how to run a session and tips for generating a productive post-game discussion.

Co-designed by a career counsellor, it is meant to be used in a facilitated counselling workshop at a college or university. However, it could also be used with senior high school students by a school guidance counsellor or even just played for fun by current (or soon-to-be) undergraduates. Additionally, it could be used in other settings such as an academic advising appointment or as part of orientation or other student services outreach on campus.

A tabletop experience of campus life

While surveys indicate most students attend university to “get a good job,” they rarely focus on career planning until they are about to graduate. The first three years of their 4-year degree are spent juggling school work, social life, wellbeing, and money matters and their future career may not become a priority before senior year. By then, they have missed out on so many opportunities to build their C.V., seek out internships, and make a plan for where they would like to end up. Campus Paths was designed with these students in mind.
